At first, Ford Excursion appeared on the show in Texas, which was held in 1999. Excursion was created on the base of the truck Ford F 250. Design of the Ford Excursion is traditional and quite simple: spring suspension, the support frame ladder, four-wheel drive with the connection and disconnection of the front axle. Interior of the car should be noted especially: front seats have a good range of adjustment and climate control. Despite the powerful engine and four-wheel drive, which has a lower gear, Ford Excursion is not designed for off-road. The reason for this is the huge wheelbase, which is equal to 3480 mm, plus a huge weight.
The vehicle combines the latest advances in the automotive industry: damper of steering wheel, ABS, ventilated discs at front and rear sides of the car, cruise control and Parktronic system. On the other hand automatic transmission is not the best. In the center of the computer is situated compass and cheap plastic was used in interior decoration. From the American forms the Ford Excursion inherited: jack handle and wheel wrench located under the hood that is not reasonable, as these items can significantly warm. On top of this car has a strong pitching that is common for American cars. Among positive qualities should be noted fallowing: excellent power steering, spacious interior decorated with light colors, which gives the interior an even larger space, the regulation of the driver's seat is performed electronically. The car can seat up to 9 people. There is a BlockerBeam system, which is a reinforced tubular element, which is installed under the front bumper and serves to resist “diving” of short cars under Excursion. It is indispensable in frontal collisions. The same function is performed by the towing device, which is under the rear bumper.
Ford Excursion is equipped with a 10-cylinder V-twin engine, which belongs to the family of the Triton engines with a volume equal to 6.8 liters that produces 310 horsepower. There are also alternative engines: V8 with a volume of 5.4 liters and 255, as well as the V8 turbo diesel with a volume of 7.3 liters and 250 hp. Average fuel consumption per 100 kilometers is 28 liters.
