The Mercedes-Benz S600 is one of the W140 luxury sedans series produced by the German car manufacturer since 1990. The W140 were offered in three body styles: the two-door coupe and the four-door long and short sedans. The entire line was renamed in 1993 and that‘s how the name S600 appeared.
The W140 (the S series later) was the first representative of the Company’s new design theme. The innovative design elements of the Mercedes-Benz S600 included electric windows, double-pane windows, a heating system and a power-assisted closing system for doors. These were the elements that resulted in production delays, Company’s over budgeting and 25 percent of the price increasing, so the Mercedes management decided to give up the innovative elements.
The engine options during the years of the W140 series production included the following engines: the 2.8 liter petrol M104 I6, the 3.2 liter petrol M104 I6, the 3.0 liter diesel OM606 I6, the 3.5 liter diesel OM603 I6, the 4.2 and 5.0 liter petrol M119 V8 and the 6.0 liter petrol M120 V12. Transmission options were presented by the four-speed automatic 4G-Tronic, the five-speed automatic 5G-Tronic and the five-speed manual one.
The standard feature package included leather upholstery combined with some wooden elements on the panels, electronic stability program, dual-zone climate control and the air-conditioning system that worked for 20 more minutes after the engine was turned off, heated exterior mirrors, self-closing doors, stop/start system and an amazing audio system with satellite radio. With all these features and some optional packages that were available for anyone who wanted to upgrade their Mercedes-Benz S600 you could feel as comfortable as the queen in her limo.
The Mercedes-Benz S600 was a car that set some new performance standards of that time. Equipped with a 6.0 liter V12 engine it was able to accelerate up to 100 km/hour in only 5.5 seconds. This was an absolute record for a car this size and weight at that time.
