Fiat Mille is one of the names the Fiat Uno was known after. The first generation of this car appeared in 1983 and was a result of work of the ItalDesign Company ran by Giorgetto Giugiaro. The new look of the car was not similar to its predecessor, the Fiat 127 series, the main difference of which lay in tall square body of the car. Fiat Mille The Uno’s production was launched in 1983 and was offered in three body styles: the three-door and five-door hatchback and three-door panel van. The initial engine option included a 0.9 liter OHV and 1.1 liter and 1.3 liter SOHC petrol engines completed with the 127’s series transmissions: the four- and five-speed manual and a Selecta CVT one. An additional engine option, the 1.3 liter diesel one was offered later for the UK market only. The second series of Fiat Mille that appeared in 1989 had some additional facelift that resulted in a different tailgate that improved the drag coefficient to Cd 0.30. The internal equipment received some more changes such as new version of the 1.1 liter and 1.3 liter engines in both turbo and naturally aspirated versions. The new 1.4 liter turbo engine could obtain the 204 km/hour. The Fiat Mille production and sales were stopped in 1995 in Europe. The replacement for this series was the Fiat Punto which production started in late 1993. Fiat Mille The Fiat Mille however is still sold in Brazil. The Brazilian version of this car features a completely different suspension, the rear transverse leaf spring based on the 147 series. The design of the Brazilian Mille is also unique, with some extra space in the truck because of the engine bay spare tire location. The basic engine option for these cars is the 1.3 liter or 1.5 liter petrol engine upgraded with a 1.6 liter version in the later years of production. The Brazilian Mille even had a special sport version of the car equipped with a turbocharged 1.4 liter engine in 1990-s. In 2004 the Fiat Uno had introduced a modified version that was more economical and light and resulted to be the most loved and purchased compact vehicle in the Brazilian auto market.
