Review:
The debut of the legendary Mitsubishi Eclipse took place in 1989.
Eclipse was assembled on the basis of the famous Galant VR-4, which brought the glory to the rally team Mitsubishi in the early 90`s. By the way this car was intended for fans of fast driving, who can not afford the expensive sports cars. The idea was proved to be successful, and the market accepted the novelty eagerly.

The dynamic 2-door coupe body, the front optics and elegant rear fender emphasize the sports nature of the van. Salon of the first Eclipse has been adjusted only for two adult passengers. Moreover, thanks to the wide range of adjustments of the driver's seat and amending the height of the steering column, even tall man could get comfortable behind the wheel. But there is not so much useful space on the rear.
Despite the fact that Mitsubishi Eclipse is a little bit less Galant (4340/ 1690/1300 against 4540/1695/1400), it is slightly heavier - 1215 and 1185 kg, respectively, which is explained by a reinforced body, designed to carry high loads, and the frame of security adjusted along the perimeter. Inside the doors, under the ceiling and the torpedo, there has been installed boards stiffness. It was unique for that time to have the four-cylinder engine 4G63 in three versions under the hood.

Since 1992, all standard versions have been equipped with ABS. At the same time in American versions they began to refuse from the open front optics.
The second seriously upgraded generation of Eclipse under the 2G index appeared in 1995.
In 1996, the convertible van Spyder in 2 versions was added to the family with the 2.4-l. engine (with GS) and turbo 2-l. engine (GS-T).
In 1998 the concept Mitsubishi SST was displayed at the Detroit motor show. That spectacular coupe demonstrated a new design direction. And the main expected event occurred in 2000 when a serial car known as 3G was given the go-ahead.
