Suzuki has opened a fuel cell factory
Suzuki has opened a fuel cell factory

Japanese plan to begin mass production of fuel cells at a new plant in Yokohama. One year ago Suzuki and Intelligent Energy Company (specialist in fuel cells) have formed a joint venture SMILE FC for mass production of electrochemical generators. Partners believe that fuel cells can become the best solution for transport that allows to get rid of harmful emissions. And now, they have built their own factory.

Fuel cell is a device with air cooling, manufactured as units with a capacity of 1 and 2.5 kW (they can be combined into more powerful units). Intelligent Energy marks such advantages of the construction as a simplicity and low (by the standards of fuel cells) cost. Moreover, these cells operate at temperatures ranging from minus 40 to plus 50 degrees.

Suzuki Company will try to catch up (or even leave behind) with the other car-makers that have seriously applied to the hydrogen subject. It is notable, that the company in Yokohama will produce fuel cells not only for the automotive industry, but for other sectors as well.
