The Datsun (Nissan after 1984) 720 was a pickup manufactured in the period from 1983 till 1986. The King Cab was the most popular modification of the cabin. Depending on the needs of the customer, on the American market this model was offered with such variants of the salon as King Cab, DX (deluxe), the GL (with long bed), Cab-and-Chassis model (2WD only) and ST (sport truck) to satisfy all his demands. At the same time, for some overseas markets the company also proposed a 4-door variant. The Datsun 720 was offered for the customers both in 2WD and AWD configurations. Early models of this pickup looked quite ascetic and were distinguished by single wall beds together with outside rolled lips in combination with rope ties, twin faux hood vents, and back lights on the lower rear valance. The dashboard was represented with the rounded devises.
The latest modification of this truck was produced from 1985 till the first half of 1986.
It was reworked and redesigned and as a course of these improvements, it has got the double wall with smooth sided beds, together with tail lights by the corners resembling those on GMC S-series trucks. By the way, some overseas models in production were equipped with the early style beds.
In mid-1983 Nissan equipped it car with Z24. This 2.4 liter engine was four-cylinder, twin-spark one that could develop the power output of 103 horsepower (77 kW). The other modification could be equipped with SD23 (2.3 L OHV 4-cylinder) or SD25 diesel motors. For the American market the diesel version of the engine was only offered for the 2WD 720 version in the period from 1982 untill 1985. The customers from the rest of the world had the opportunity to buy the modification with the smaller power units: J15 (1.5 L) , J16 (1.6 L) or L18 (1.8 L) carbureted ones. The English market version only has got the longed wheelbase, like the standard bed 1-tonner one with the L18 engine or like the 4-WD 2.2 liter King Cab reaching the power output of 96 horsepower (72 kW).
