Little Opel Adam will receive a very immodest engine with crazy volume. Next year the European Adam will be available with not only 1-liter three-cylinder turbo engine, but the 1.4 liter supercharged unit with four-cylinders. Who would have thought that such modes and compact vehicle will transform into a tiny road monster.
In Europe this three-soor Opel Adam, which length does not exceed 3.7 m, is available for sale since the beginning of 2013. But in the era of naturally aspirated German hatchbacks that are only equipped with atmospheric engines varying from 1.2 liter and 1.4 liter volumes, the release of this model seems a little old-fashioned. Opel Adam didn’t even receive a turbo diesel. In 2014 German manufacturer will start selling petrol versions of most popular engines that will be placed in this vehicle. So the European buyers will have a wide selection of engines to make their compact car more powerful.
The modifications will include petrol versions with forced draft motors of new sample with a displacement of 1 and 1.4 liters. We are talking about units that were developed by engineers of General Motors and SAIC.
According to rumors, Opel will officially sell Adam model in Europe and Russia. Now the company’s managers do not count on a high sales level, but still. That is why Russian market, for example, will only receive Adams equipped with mechanical transmission and lowest trim options. The first vehicle to receive a 1-liter engine will become the British Adam, that is currently sold under the brand Vauxhall. It will also have a three-cylinder gasoline engine, belonging to the family of SGE (Small Gasoline Engine), equipped with low-inertia turbocharger, direct injection and variable valve timing mechanism. 115 hp of power and 165 N • m of torque should be more than enough for a comfortable city ride. Its dynamic characteristics are so far not announced, but British journalists found out that the fuel consumption in the combined cycle will not exceed 5.3 liters per 100 kilometers.
