The first prototype of the Audi Q3 was shown in spring of 2012. The Audi management also stated that this was not your ordinary show car but the future to become series that will be available to the ordinary people (well, the people who will be able to afford it). The promise of making the Audi RS Q3 a series became real and transformed into the 2013 model line. The Geneva Auto Show visitors will be able to see a ready serial vehicle that was prepared by the Audi engineers. Oh, and by the way, this is the first Audi line to obtain the RS prefix to its name.
The newest SUV gained some weight; it is 165 kg heavier than its predecessor. The overall weight is 1730 kg but that’s not that serious when you find out about the features this car has. The length of the Audi Q3 increased with 2.5 cm, the same number it became shorter for. Well, to see the difference you need to crawl under the vehicle with the ruler because the 2.5 cm are really not that noticeable.
Ok, we finally got to the most interesting part of the new Audi RS Q3 - its engine. The so called heart of this SUV is a pure miracle of the modern auto manufacturing industry.
The engine is based on the Audi’s TT RS series and is presented by the 2.5 liter five-cylinder turbo motor with the 310 hp (420 n/m) of capacity. This engine is aggregated with the robotic “S Tronic” transmission. The 100 km/hour speed is obtained in less than 6 seconds, in 5.5 seconds to be exact. So who worries about the Audi’s Q3 weight now? The maximum speed is electronically limited and is 250 km/hour. Well, if you’re planning to drive this car around the city and eventually on the freeways you don’t need more.
The fuel consumption is 8.8 liters per 100 km, not the smallest number but hey, it’s a small price to pay for such an amazing vehicle. If during the production of the Q3 series Audi will not make any changes to the engine and transmission, this will become the most powerful vehicle in its class. The exterior is significantly changed; the front grille is replaced with the new one as well as bumpers, tires and spoilers.
