The official information about the new compact Peugeot 2008 crossover has been a really hard thing to find for the past couple of months. The company wasn’t ready to share it with everyone so the small crumbs that were revealed to the public about the future model were really everything we had. It may seem like the new Peugeot 2008 was some kind of mystery car but with the official press release of the 2008 model this assumption may rest in peace.
The first news about Peugeot 2008 was revealed in Paris, when the first ever prototype of the future model was shown to the public. The Peugeot management then announced that the series will be presented at the forthcoming Geneva Auto Show in March. After this statement the official pictures of the 2008 series crossover appeared in the internet and now we have all the technical characteristics of the Peugeot 2008 model. We also know that the assembly of this model line will take place at the Peugeot plants in France, China and Brazil.
The new crossover is based on the Peugeot 208 platform, the one that was used for the previous generations of hatchbacks. The overall length of the new Peugeot 2008 vehicle is 4160 cm, the width is 1740 cm. That way the 2008 model will become the direct competitor for the Nissan Juke, Opel Mokka and the not yet gone to sales Renault Captur SUVs. As for the clearance of the new Peugeot 2008, it is 16 cm. It is rumored that the crossover version of Peugeot 2008 is going to be the front-wheel drive only with the additional options of Grip Control system that will adjust the vehicle’s settings to the changing road conditions.
The interior of the new Peugeot 2008 is almost identical to the previous generation, the Peugeot 208. The trunk capacity is 360 liters in the original state and 1194 liters if the rear seats are folded. The engines are presented with five options: two petrol engines (1.2 liter and 1.6 liter with the capacity of 82 hp and 115 hp as follows) and three diesel versions. The European sales are expected to start in Spring.
