The Simca Horizon was a subcompact automobile or supermini to be developed by Chrysler Europe. It was sold from February 1978 to June 1986 under names like the Talbot, Chrysler and Simca. Variants to the model were also made and marketed in the US as the Plymouth Horizon and Dodge Omni until 1990.
The Horizon was also known as the Project C2 in its developmental years. It was intended to be a world car which meant that it was created for consumers on both the sides of the Atlantic. However, the North American and European versions of the car actually seemed to have little in common.
The Horizon was a reduced variation of the French Horizon which made the vehicle has a very wide track for length. The Poissy engine was transversely mounted. The OHV engines came in the capacity of 1.1, 1.3 and 1.5 liters, with a 4 speed gearbox and torsion bar suspension. The Horizon was applauded for its supple ride, crisp style and competitive handling.
The TX version that joined the range for the Paris Motor Show attracted a lot of interest due to its innovative trip computer. The car could report fuel consumption and average speed and provided information on times and distances. The car became the European Car of the Year in 1979.
