Yamaha XJ 600
Yamaha XJ600 was manufactured by Yamaha from 1984 to 1991. The bike was of light weight and had top half fairing. It was able to produce 72bhp of power and it was marketed as FJ600 in North America. After 1991 it was replaced by Yamaha Diversion. The notable feature of the 1984 Yamaha XJ600 being the first inline-4 Japanese bike with 600cc displacement. It was also the first to use mono-shock rear suspension design. The Yamaha XJ900 was derived from the original XJ 650, the founder father of the series.
The original version had a double overhead camshaft, air-cooled 4-cylinder, 8-valve 853cc 4-stroke engine. The bike came under criticism for its handlebar mounted fairing and handling which prompted Yamaha to retro fit it with frame mounted fairing to all models. In 1983 the XJ900 came with shaft drive, anti-dive front forks and triple disc brakes. In 1984 a revised version displacing 891cc was launched and it also sported conventional forks and standard belly pan. It had a 5-speed transmission and a fuel capacity of 22 litres. The bike was able to achieve a top speed of 200kmph and the bike was very much a lookalike of the original model. The bike was taken out of production in 1994.
