Outrageousness is what rules the SEMA show for 2014 and for a moment you would think that the 2015 Toyota Camry will be wearing some smoky tint and custom wheels, and you can be excused for thinking that. But it will not take much time for the impression to fade away as you look at the soft-behaved sedan’s innards. The car flips open to reveal tube-frame dragster Funny Car style, and it is solidly powered by Nitro-huffing supercharged V8 generating 850hp screaming power to feed to the rear wheels. This is one mean machine you would not flirt with.
The Toyota unveiled by Rutledge Wood conceals a TRD supercharged 5.7 L V8 engine borrowed from Tundra pickup and also the transmission and rear axle of the truck. The crazed Toyota Camry with the 335-section-width DOT with slicks out back and wet nitrous system in place reportedly by the maker is capable of producing a 9.8 second timing for the quarter mile.
The fully customized Toyota Camry just took 11 weeks to build and it does not give a hint at what it is concealing the flipper body. Except for the lowered ride height and the robust tires, you find no exterior indication that this humble family sedan is capable of producing 143hp more than the screaming Hellcat dodge with 707hp. Right down to the four doors the car works comprehensively.
Well, getting into the car via doors is difficult for the driver of the Sleeper Camry, and it is impossible downright for passengers. Except for the door panels everything is built as per specifications and you find a Fast Ed racing seat, Autometer digital dash, and a four-point harness by Impact Racing to help tame this improbable beast from Toyota. This crazy product will be displayed throughout the SEMA week by the Toyota booth.
