100 years old 28.5-litre Fiat wakes up again at Turin

What is a big engine according to your classification? Will it be the 8-liter W16 of the Bugatti Veyron or the 8.4 Liter V10 of the Viper? Now how about a 28.5 Liter four cylinder engine firing after 100 years? Save your ear drums the beast of Turin is starting up.

If you see the video posted on the internet you will know that it displaces nearly 30 Liters and it has not started over a hundred years. The British enthusiast Duncan Pittaway has succeeded finally in reviving the beast back to life and the insane S76 from Fiat sounds nothing like you have every heard in your life on earth. The S76 was built way back in 1910 and was assembled with the aim of beating the speed record for land, conducted by Blitzen-Benz at the time.

The vehicle had a displacement which was normally reserved for inducting in the supertankers, a boast exercised by the maker by the prevailing standards of the time and also some hardware which were cutting edge. They included four valves per cylinder; overhead cam technology and multi spark which aided the vehicle to reach the power range of 300hp. In 1910 an engine having the power of producing 300hp!

At that time only two S76s were built and the remains of the one chassis was found in Australia by Pittaway who eventually united the chassis with the surviving engine of the S76. After all this years the news comes now that the Best of Turin has come alive again. This is bad news for your ears and is likely to be terrifying.  When you watch the video make sure to turn up the volume and the century old masterpiece Fiat will shatter your ear drums deliciously.

The rumor is that the beast will be driven by Pittaway up the Goodwood Hill on the occasion of Festival of Speed to be held next year. This might be the time you buy yourself a pair of earplugs from Southern England manufacturer.
