Know more about the Massive Takata Airbag Recall in the USA

The massive recall of the Takata made airbags is the news which had lighted the automotive and the real world with its buzz. The recall involves recalling of several million vehicles involving about two dozen brands in the US. Here we brief the issues you need to know about the recall and the Takata airbags supplied by Japanese maker which shoots shrapnel of inflator parts as well as what course of action need to take if you have one of them.

The problem lies in the propellant device of the inflator which in the event of deploying the airbag shoots tiny fragments of metal on to the passengers sitting inside the vehicle.  In the United States 7 million vehicles are reported affected. In the beginning only six models were announced for the Takata fault dating back to April 2013 but the latest Toyota recall and the admission of the Takata that it had no ideas of the number of vehicles using the defective airbags or even the core reason for the fault buoyed other makers in to action. After several other identical recalls the NHTSA imposed more regional recalls involving high-humidity areas such as Florida, U.S. Virgin Islands and Hawaii and send the offending parts to review by Takata.

The recall was expanded to several other brands when a major recall was announced in October. Toyota for its part announced that it would start replacement of the passenger side inflators which are defecting starting from 25, October. In case the parts not available with dealers, they were advised to remove the affected airbags and put a “Do Not Sit Here” sign   on the dash.

Several reasons were quoted by the Japanese airbag maker and they include improperly stored propellant chemicals during assembly and humid weather condition prevailing in certain states. You can see the list of affected automobile brands on the internet.
