Volkswagen offers Star Wars like controls to its Golf R Gesture control CES Concept
When we think of the future, the first things come to the min is the robot helpers, hovering cars and artificial intelligence. However, they are not coming any sooner as they are still at the far end of the horizon but the favorite technology. The touch controls are already here like you have seen in Minority Report where the hero swipes and swats the air to manipulate computers. Gesture controls have already crept into video games now it has also crept into automobiles.
This 2015 Consumer Electronic Show will be witnessing a Golf R Touch concept which VW is integrating with gesture-control. Well, if you have always wanted to control your car like Yoda controlling the forces in Star Wars franchise, then you are about to be offered with the power. Starting the gesture control with the Golf R is the sensible decision as it appears the most flashed out car for the purpose. Here we need to remind you that the technology of gesture controlled auto-motion is not new, and two years ago Hyundai showed it to the world. A 3-D camera placed on the windshield will detect the slightest hand or finger moves by the driver and front passenger and transform it into control moves.
To initiate the gesture control move the driver simply has to hold the open hand up and the 12.8 inches display on the dashboard will flash series of control options which are exclusive to the touch concept. You can click and swipe through these controls, and you need to use short movements like pointing you index finger. When you want to convey that the input is done you simply close your hand. Wow!
The gesture control interface looks slick, and the VW has intelligently invented gesture motions for exit and entry so that unintentional gesturing is prevented. You can also use gesture control initiate center display and power seat controls, and the sun-roof control has also been included. With a lateral wave of your hand, you can commence the former, and the later can be activated by a swipe at the ceiling. Know more about it on the website.
