New turbo four likely for the Honda Acura ILX New Turbo Four But will it get back the turners?
Acura is about to go through a renewal process of its car range, and that is not just restricted to outside. At the event of the launch of the Acura ILX, we asked the Gary Robinson, the Acura product planner, whether a 2.0 Loiter Earth Dreams four-cylinder will be featuring under the hood of the Honda.
He replied in a characteristic Honda/Acura style that nothing can be confirmed immediately, but he let us have a peek at his thoughts. “Acura will always get the best engines made by Honda and that means the engines are always going to be more potent than the rivals of Honda. Which also makes it obvious for the 2.0 Liter turbo engine to be a part of the must have luxury scenario in automobiles plying the mainstream market?
The first thing comes to your mind hearing that would be the ILX Type-S with more than 300hp, and you are not alone in this. By the end of the year, you can see Honda using the 300 plus turbo variant of the four-cylinder engine for the US market in some form. What we think is that a 300 plus version ILX Type S would be formidable if it is offered with a manual transmission.
Robinson however doused the aspiration for the ILX by quoting that such a move would require the car undergoing several engineering modifications and this may not happen to the car is fully redesigned which is probably for the 2019 model coming in 2018.
He further hoped that the turbo engine could be a tool to reuse the tuners lost during the last ten years to other brands. He said that the youth of the day now buy old BMW turbo engines, and they fix it with chips to get the power they want from them. Tuners nowadays have become programmers than mechanics who used to do these things.
