Cadillac CTS sedan of the new generation debuts at the New York Auto Show next week. And while every car fan out there is waiting for this to happen the company has shared the information about the engine options available for the new vehicle. There’s an entirely new 3.6 liter ICE V6 VVT DI Twin Turbo with two turbo compressors, variable valve timing and direct injection. The working volume of this one is 3564 cubic centimeters, the torque is 583 N/m (90% of it available in a range from 2500 to 5500 r/m) and the capacity is 420 of horse powers. American manufacturers call this one the most powerful (with 118 hp per each liter) six-cylinder engine in the mid-size luxury sedan segment.
When designing the LF3 the engineers used the general scheme of the existing 3.6 liter V6 engine from such famous brands as ATS and XTS as a basis. They rebuilt almost the entire construction of the engine beginning with cylinder blocks and heads. The LF3 engine also got a new integrated cooling system with low air flow resistance.
Other new features of the LF3 are presented with the new injection system and the new control valves with vacuum driven turbocharger and electronic controllers.
These features allow controlling the parameters of the turbocharger and maintaining high level of traction at low speeds. The new features do not end with these two; there are plenty of new options Cadillac engineers introduced in the new engine which led to a relatively high level of efficiency along with large traction range at different speeds.
The new 3.6 liter V6 Twin Turbo is not the only amazing engine option available for the Cadillac CTS sedan. You can also have a 3.6 liter V6 with 321 hp of capacity and a 2.0 liter turbo engine with four valves and 272 hp of capacity.
The new LF3 will first be installed on the CTS and will later appear on the XTS sedan. It may also become a part of the engine choices for the Chevrolet Camaro series because it perfectly fits with the eight-speed automatic TL80 transmission.
