According to data received from National Insurance Crime Bureau, Ford Escape is the most stolen SUV in the United States for the past couple of years. The Bureau analytics have reviewed the information on the stealing of different models of new crossovers and SUVs from the period of 1 January 2008 to 30 June 2012. The “Prime” agency states that according to this research the total amount of stolen SUVs and crossovers during this period is 19.961 with almost 1014 cases belonging to Ford Escapes model.
The second place of the most popular vehicles among the hijackers is Chevrolet Tahoe with 856 of cases. Toyota RAV4 follows with 801 of stolen cars, and then comes the Ford Edge with 739 cases and Dodge Journey with 721 cases.
The most car stealing takes place in California where 3003 of stolen vehicles were registered for the past two years. The second place of the most car stealing cases goes to Texas (1826 cases) and Florida (1784 cases). New York follows with the total amount of 1754 of stolen cars, the LA and Detroit come right after with the same numbers.
According to National Insurance Crime Bureau, the Cadillac Escalade that is also often called the most stolen crossover didn’t even get near the 11th place in the top 25 stolen cars list.
The top ten most stolen SUVs and crossovers in the US is the following:

- Chevrolet Tahoe - 856 cases;
- Toyota RAV4 - 801 cases;
- Ford Edge - 739 cases;
- Dodge Journey - 721 cases;
- Honda CR-V - 643 cases;
- Jeep Wrangler - 643 cases;
- JeepGrand Cherokee - 641 cases;
- Nissan Rogue - 547 cases;
- Nissan Murano - 473 cases.
The SUVs are popular among the hijackers around the world as well. The most stolen cars in the world in 2012 are the Mazda 3 and Honda Civic models. These are of course sedans, but the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 SUVs have the fifth and sixth places accordingly in the top of the most stolen cars in the world. Another place in this list, the ninth to be exact, belongs to yet another SUV - the Mitsubishi Outlander.
