Spy photos show a 2017 Audi SQ7 which is sporty and ready to take on high-performance competition
Spy photos of the new 2017 Audi SQ7 have surfaced. The Audi Q7 of the first generation has been here for long, but it never came out with a high-performance model that would rival with Mercedes-Benz AMG or BMW M. The upcoming Q7 is none like that, and it is likely to take them head on. This one will embrace the formula applied successfully to Q5 and the SQ5 and create the ultimate SUV version with three rows, the SQ7.
How this Audi SQ7 is going to matter in the market? We usually ridicule the silliness of modern SUV with the high performance, but they are a growing tribe. For example, the tribe now have many of them such as the BMW X5 M and X6 M, Range Rover Sport SVR, Porsche Cayenne high-zoot versions and the GLE63 and GLE63 S Coupe from Mercedes-AMG. More are being ready such as the Bentley’s Bentayga, Levante of Maserati and possibly the Urus from Lamborghini. The growths of these machines are attributed to their high visibility and profitability. Such scenario certainly expected one from Audi too.
The platform that will be used for the SQ7 is the MLB modular longitudinal architecture of VW Group as it has already contributed to the second generation Q7, and the next VW Touareg and Porsche Cayenne will be next on the line to take the architecture. If this is going to be true, then the SQ7 will probably save about 700 pounds of weight over its predecessor and will prove to a plus point when it comes to sale.
The Powertrain for the SQ7 has not been decided yet, but according to rumors the VW Group is likely to come up with a unique turbocharged mega diesel engine for it, a V-8 TDI supported by a supercharger allegedly capable of 450-hp and 600lb-ft of torque. The SQ7 is due for release later this year, and it has already been released in Europe.
