As it already happened with Toyota before, the U.S. filed a lawsuit against Ford Company for concealing the gas pedal defects.
In the U.S. federal court of Huntington, West Virginia, a mass lawsuit against Ford Company was filed. This lawsuit accuses the manufacturer of concealing a defect that is found on a gas pedal that resulted in the unintended acceleration of Ford vehicles. There were no accidents from this defect but it is unacceptable to let such things happen. Beginning from 2010 Ford Company began to install so called brake override system (BOS) on every vehicle that was sold in the North American market.
According to the claimants, Ford manufacturer was aware of these defects and hid them from the customers. This machination resulted to be the reason of people who bought the cars that were produced from 2002 until 2010 losing the value of their cars. This hidden defect nobody knew about resulted to be the main reason of vehicles losing their value.
The lawsuit consists of 19 complaints from people representing the Ford owners’ interests from 14 states. The owners of Ford Mustang 2005-2010, Ford Explorer 2004-2010, Mercury Cougar 2002-2005, and the U.S. market bestsellers - the Pickup F series 2004-2010 and Lincoln Town Car 2005-2009 participate in this story.
The plaintiffs\' lawyer said in his interview to the “Bloomberg” agency that he thinks that by the time the trial starts this lawsuit will cover the complaints of people around almost 50 states. The story is getting bigger every day and that’s not surprising at all.
The lawsuit against Ford Company is very similar to the one filed against Toyota’s American subdivision. Toyota’s cars were also accused of unintended acceleration due to the \"sticky\" gas pedal. The Japanese manufacturer agreed to pay American car owners almost $ 1.1 billion of compensations. The smartest move for Ford Company would be to do the same, if the Company’s management isn’t willing to lose their client base to other companies, for example Toyota.
