Mercedes-Benz CLK-class is a family of vehicles with bodies of coupe and convertible. It is an intermediate class between C and E have. The car has been created on the basis of class C.
For the first time the model CLK-Class (coupe) was presented at the Detroit Auto Show in January 1997. Despite the external similarity of CLK with models of the E-class technical basis for the car was taken from more compact C-Class. However, CLK should not be considered “docked” E-class, as its wheelbase is 14 inches shorter and the track is narrower. As a result, CLK coupe made its debut on the market two years after the E-Class with more typical for the C-class \"compact\" four-cylinder engines of 2.0 and 2.3 liters. More powerful V6 3, 2 l and V8 4, 3 l and appeared later.
Coupe has a pronounced \"big-eyed\" appearance of E-class. There is a hardtop body without B-pillars, an arrow-shaped profile, wide door without window frames for big arched windows and a small triangular air vents for the rear passengers. The drag coefficient is reduced to 0.28: it is a little worse than in the sedan (0.26), but significantly better than in the nearest competitor.
Inside the Mercedes CLK meets us with the familiar world of leather, wood and many other pleasant things like remotely controlled rear window blinds or multicontour seats with inflatable multiple cameras that support a variety of delicate parts of the body.
Furthermore, all the controls, starting from the handle of automatic transmission and finishing with system-Beam Assistant are on the usual places, and even have the usual form. Instrument panel with \"real\" analog clock and vertical \"thermometer\" of fuel gauge and coolant temperature is borrowed from the E-Class.
CLK models are available with in-line petrol engines with electronic fuel injection system of various sizes and capacities: 4 -, 6 -, and 8-cylinder engines with working volume from 2.0 to 4.3 liters and capacity from 136 to 279 hp.
Cars are equipped with five-speed manual or automatic transmission, ABS, side airbags, ASR, dynamic stabilization system ESP and Break-Assist.
