Review:
Initially, I intended this entry to be just a reply for an existing review, but later on I realized that it could be easily posted as an individual thorough review. So, let’s get started!
Choosing a new car
My wife and I set our minds on buying a «family car» and also we decided that we would share the driving. The car was mostly needed for the city driving and we didn’t take into consideration the cars with the steering wheel on the right side. So, by process of elimination, we got the following list of candidates:
Opel Corsa;
Mitsubishi Colt;
Ford Fiesta;
Toyota Yaris(Auris).
Then we went to an automobile sales center to see the cars for ourselves. I can’t say anything negative about any of these cars, but I wasn’t comfortable seating in any of these cars except for Fiesta and Auris. I weight 100 kg and I’m 184 cm of height. Then we crossed from our list Toyota Yaris because of its high price. We also didn’t consider Peugeot to be our car for some reason. At the end of the day after we’d tried out all the cars none of them felt right. It seemed that every car was lacking something. And then… Then we saw Peugeot 207. It didn’t take long (about 15 minutes) for us to fall in love with this car. I liked it so much — especially its design and performance characteristics. My wife liked the most the way the inside of a car was designed. So, a week later we got this car.
Leaping ahead, it should be noted that I still have this car and it doesn’t cause me any problems except for some unpleasant surprises in winter time.
The first year of having my car
We bought our car in August. We had no problems with it during the autumn at all, but when the Siberian winter came we started to experience some difficulties with starting the engine. The dealer we bought our car from refused to install any car alarm with remote start system on the car saying that they don’t do this kind of work. As an alternative they advised us to equip the car with a pre-heater. At the moment I saw this as nothing less than wasting my money (1000 euro).But soon enough I found out for myself that the car wouldn’t start in the freezing cold winter weather (-25˚C). So, then we had our car towed to the dealer. After a couple of days we got our car back. A serviceman said that he upgraded firmware on the on-boat computer and that everything is going to be fine. For the remaining part of the winter the car was working exceptionally well, though the temperature didn’t go down below – 20˚C.
The first year of having this car wasn’t marked with anything significant other than that. Our daily commutes were amazingly enjoyable. We knew we bought the right car. Though, I have to tell you that the car is pretty sensitive to the quality of gasoline. We had to fill up our car at a few different gas stations before we figured the right type of fuel. With the right petrol the car is so fast and furious. The sport-mode is really something.
Near the end of the first year of having Peugeot 207 we made a road trip where we could put our car to test on a highway. In total we covered 2000 km. The average fuel consumption by the car was 6.8l\km. Most of the time we were doing 110-120 km\h. We had so much fun, thank you Peugeot!
After some time had passed we went through mandatory technical inspection of the car without any problems.
One time the on-board computer displayed an error message. I decided to drive to the serviceman — who after doing some diagnostic procedures figured the problem. There was something wrong with the transmission sensors. After an hour of work the problem wasn’t existing anymore. We love this car to this day and strongly recommend it to anyone who has the similar needs as my wife and I do.
