It is confirmed that Volkswagen will be presenting their plug-in hybrid variant of Passat in the upcoming Paris Motor Show. Altogether, it is expected that the Paris Motor show will be the right platform set forth at the right time for the automakers to showcase their greener variants for a cleaner world. Similar to that of the Porsche and Cayenne S E-Hybrid which are coming with plug-in hybrid Drivetrain, the most popular sedan from Volkswagen; the Passat also is joining the club soon.
The variant is named as Volkswagen Passat GTE, which has some interior feature changes also and a fully updated powertrain. Based on the latest generation Passat, the plug-in hybrid model from this German manufacturer is coming out after their limited XL1 and Golf GTE variants. The sales are expected to start in the second half of next year, and the vehicle is expected to be made available in saloon and estate body types across the globe.
The latest Volkswagen Passat has many salient achievements, including a world record for the best fuel economy under a non-hybrid car economy. As per the reports, it has set a record for 77.99 mpg which is about 3.02L for 100km. However, this level is expected to be improved by new hybrid Volkswagen Passat GTE model as it is accompanied by hybrid Petrol-Electric combination. The company revealed to export special editions for selected markets like UAE, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia and so on.
Technically, the new Volkswagen Passat GTE is equipped with a petrol-electric hybrid plant, which has a fine-tuned Ver. of 1.4L TSI along with an electric motor with 115PS peak power and also 400 Nm of torque. The combined output is around 271PS at peak. It will be mated with a mighty 6-speed dual-clutch Volkswagen’s PDK gearbox.
